DJ Dimplez was initially called DJ Tumi when he began his career in 2004 but his birth name didn't really appeal to Channel O VJ, Lungile Radu (that's our very own Lungile Radu, in case you were wondering).
During an interview on Channel O's show 'Oboma', DJ Tumi had some DJ names thrown back at him which included Tumiza and Tombstone, as you can imagine, these didn't fly!
Ten seconds before lights, camera, action, the name DJ Dimplez came up and that was the turning point of his career.
This 20-something DJ has had an affair with music for years, right from the moment he used to party at 115 and Reality. His thought, if you can’t beat em, join em and that was when he went out and bought his own DJing equipment. Dimplez then joined the WITS DJ society, they were kind of like “Dead Poets Society” but different, these guys were avid DJ’s; a group of aspiring guys with a shared interest, cramped in a room practicing their skills.
Dimplez tapped into the niche market of hip-hop and it wasn’t long before he was playing to massive crowds of hip-hop enthusiasts. His career has led to him not only to play in and around most of Mzansi’s top clubs but this guy is also in huge demand at corporate events, he played at "The Apprentice S.A Finale”.
Pop Bottles™ is his latest events movement. These are Sunday afternoon shindigs for hip-hop lovers pulling in crowds of over 700 people, and has been cited as one of the most successful hip-hop events ever in Jozi, the event has now hit Cape Town and Durban.
Don't miss this legend's performance tomorrow night; so get amped, turn it up and get your Channel O Party Zone on.
