Yet once it was on TV, Big Brother Mzansi
proved to be a hit locally. Who could forget the drama brought by the
housemates who wasted no time getting down to eating, drinking and being
merry?
One of the most intriguing stories was
that of the winner, Mandla Hlatshwayo, who was charismatic with the
ladies and the one person who enjoyed the show the most. Hlatshwayo was
just a simple man. He let it be known that he owned a spaza shop and did
not think much about winning. All he wanted was to use his newfound
fame to make some money to pay off his debts.
It took him a very short time to fall in
love with fellow contestant, Lexi van Niekerk. The two had s*x as often
as rabbits and were unapologetic about it. It was comforting for both
parties that they came out of the house still feeling the same about
each other. In fact, there is a rumour that the pair have a reality show
coming up, but it hasn’t been confirmed.
It’s only mid-January and already word is
out that another season of Big Brother Mzansi is due and you are
invited to audition. The show promises the winner fame, fortune and,
maybe, romance. In fact, the first two attract the third one so
basically the winner will walk away with more than a cash prize.
You may bring other skills with you, but primarily you have to be bold, smart and savvy to take on the challenge.
But there is more. You have to be a
citizen/ legal resident of South Africa and 21 years of age or older in
order to audition for the show.
This time all the auditions will be held
simultaneously between January 31 and February 1 in Durban, Cape Town
and Joburg. So be content with auditioning wherever you come from
because auditions will be happening elsewhere at the same time.
“Big Brother Mzansi allows us as a
channel to tap our audience’s engagement specifically in the social
networking space,” said Nkateko Mabaso, director of local interest
channels at M-Net. “It’s a double-win for our viewers. Great viewing
today drives great viewing in the future. This show is an
entertainment
dream, packed with action, drama, romance and humour.”
The Joburg auditions take place at The
Pyramid Venue in Eloff Street, while the Durban ones will be held at the
BAT Centre (45 Maritime Place). In Cape Town go to Cape Town Lodge (101
Buitengracht Street).
The registration process happens between
8am and 3pm. Should you be registered by 3pm you will be auditioned. Do
not forget to bring your ID book as that is a must.
There is no confirmation of what the prize money is going to be, but one thing is certain, it won’t be less that R1 million.
• Big Brother Mzansi 2 starts on March 29 on Mzansi Magic (channel 161). It runs for 56 days.
